History:

Thorvald Meyers gate in Grünerløkka in Oslo runs from Biermannsgate to Nybrua, and is named after wholesaler Thorvald Meyer (1818-1909). After Meyer had bought the northern part of Grünerløkka from Hans Grüner in 1861, the area was carefully planned. At the same time, Meyer paid for the construction of a large street that ran through the area. The street was first named Gaden af. 25 April 1861, but was renamed after Thorvald Meyer as early as 1864.
